Effective Communication Essentials

This eLearning course uses storytelling and five branching scenarios, based on real-world situations, to prepare and assess graduating students in using effective communication skills in the workplace, one of the soft skill trainings offered in the WPI program at state colleges. The course includes a reference document, a reflective assignment, and a course survey. The story centers around a recent graduate who completed the WPI program and just landed her first professional job for a financial service corporation. The story will follow the new hire as she goes through her first week on the job, encountering various communication situations and applying those effective communication skills learned in the WPI program.

For evaluation purposes, WPI program directors and state college officials can review students' responses from the reflective assignment and their feedback from the course survey, as well as use analytical data from the program's LMS. Reaching out to a small group of graduates six months or one year later for additional feedback via another survey or a focal group can be beneficial in evaluating the training.
